Julie Svendsen, Principal

Welcome to West Gate Elementary!

I am proud to be serving as your principal for the 5th year here at West Gate. For those new to the school community, this is my 19th year serving our school. I began teaching here in 2001 as a second grade teacher. After four years of teaching second grade, I moved to third grade, and taught third for three years. An opportunity came where I could move into the office to become a teacher on administrative assignment. It was then that I realized I could be a leader, and I worked on completing my masters degree in administration and supervision. After three years serving as a teacher on administrative assignment, I became the assistant principal for four years, and I am now beginning my fifth year as principal. The West Gate community and the families here are very near and dear to my heart, and I work hard every day to ensure the children here are receiving the best education possible. My motto is "doing what is best for students and not what is easiest for adults." We are always striving for excellence and will never stop.

If there is anything I can do to support you and your child during his or her educational journey with us, please do not hesitate to call the school. I invite you to our coffee and conversations the second Wednesday of every month at 8:30am in our school's cafeteria. At these meetings, we discuss important school topics and share upcoming event dates.  I hope to see you there!
